Early Saturday morning, we had a simple ceremony at Sekolah Agama Masjid Darul Ehsan, SS15 Subang Jaya to present cheques to the 5 mosques and 14 suraus in DUN Subang Jaya for the month of Ramadan. I allocated RM2000 for each mosque and RM1000 for each surau from my annual state constituency allocation to assist them in their month-long ‘buka puasa’ programmes. This is in addition to other allocations which I have set aside for the single mothers and orphans who are also observing Ramadan. Below are some photos of the ceremony:

You will not read of this in all mainstream newspapers as only two reporters turned up for the event although an invitation was sent out to all of our media contacts. Reports of a DAP assemblyman contributing to mosques and suraus for Ramadan is taboo for Utusan Malaysia and the likes. I use my annual state allocation to help my constituents regardless of their race, religion or political affiliation. There is absolutely no need to label mosques or suraus as pro-Pakatan or pro-UMNO. As long as the mosque or surau is a genuine place of worship that serves its community, opens its doors to all and is duly recognised by Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS), it is entitled to my constituency allocation.
