This is Kenichi Lau Sian Yee (aged 4). Yesterday, I was called in to assist Kenichi’s father Mr Koji Tara. I met him at the Pejabat Kebajikan Masyarakat Daerah Petaling. Kenichi has Acute Lymphobalstic Leukaemia and has been told by doctor from University Malaya Medical Center that without any treatment, survival will not be possible. Kenichi was then admitted to Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya.

Kenichi lives with his mother. His father has been notified by the hospitals that Kenichi has failed to turn up for treatment. Efforts to locate Kenichi and his mother have failed.

At the Pejabat Kebajikan Masyarakat Daerah Petaling, we were told that the file is being handled by an officer in the office in Shah Alam. Efforts to contact the officer were futile. Efforts to help Mr Koji at the Petaling Office left me appalled at the lack of professionalism and compassion with the two staff manning the office. I was waiting for the Petaling office to contact her counterpart in Shah Alam and was told twice to move aside by the staff. Despite the fact that I identified myself as the State Assemblyman for this area and that I was waiting for the officer to give me an explanation on the matter, the two staff insisted that I move aside and sit somewhere else instead for them to attend to others. My intention of relating this seating arrangement is not to make an issue out of it. I just want to highlight the challenges we face as new politicians even at a government office.

We then proceeded to the police station in SS17. Mr Koji lodged another police report there (he has lodged numerous police reports before at different police stations). The police is now assisting to locate the child. We had an immediate press conference few hours ago to seek help from the public in locating the child. If you have seen this child, please contact SS17 Chief Inspector Sulaiman Baputty at 019-370 7100 (station number: 03-5633 2222) or USJ8 station head Chief Inspector Foo Teik Fong at 019-205 9222 (station number: 03-5635 6904).

Together with Mr Koji Tara (father of the child) and a concerned resident Mdm Agnes Lee who highlighted the matter to me
