I refer to the media statement by MCA ‘Below market rate’ land is meant to serve the public featured in Malaysiakini yesterday. MCA has made a feeble attempt to justify the purchase of a contentious piece of land in SS25 Petaling Jaya and its latest attempt to change its zoning to commercial use.

MCA has said “… we wish to reiterate that MCA Selangor had legally purchased it in 2008… It is solely meant for MCA to serve the public… The premium for the land was set at a nominal value because it was not meant for the purpose of business profits, but as an MCA public service hall and learning centre… MCA has a long and good track record when it comes to servicing the needs of the public.”

MCA must stop misleading the public. In 2013, I exposed a big land scandal in USJ, Subang Jaya involving Barisan Nasional politicians who bought prime land in USJ at ‘below market rate’, and later sold the properties at market price for profit. Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo’s administration had approved the sale of 99 plots of bungalow land in USJ, each around 5,000 sq ft, for between RM8,000 to RM19,000 in year 2001. Each of these bungalow land is now worth close to RM1,000,000.

Some MCA politicians clearly made it to this list of 99 bungalow land owners. My question to MCA – which part of this ‘below market rate’ bungalow lands was used to serve the needs of the public? Who pocketed the profit from the sale of these bungalow lands? Where did they deposit the proceeds of these lands? Into their personal accounts or public trust fund?

If it’s really for public service, why didnt the state government which MCA was part of – just build it for public use? Why gave the land to MCA, a political party? Why enrich MCA?

MCA must wake up from slumber. In Malaysian politics today, people have access to information. From the Cabinet level to their local division level, MCA has time and time again justified such blatant abuse of power & unethical monetary gains and even worse, to pull wool over people’s eyes by calling it a service to the public.

A gentle reminder to MCA, corruption will always leave behind a trail. Your past deeds will catch up with you. It is best to admit your mistake and return these lands to the public. Otherwise, the people of Malaysia will have no choice but to punish you again and again through the ballot box until you call a theft a theft.
